Four hundred years of servitude
Excluded by society
Subjects of inequality
treated like mere commodities
shackled by fear ,doubt and poverty
Resigned to mediocrity
Thinking there’s no modality
Which makes me wonder if this is our reality
Did black lives ever matter
When policemen kill in harsh arrests
And treat our young with disrespect
As if they were just merely pests
Now look around, what do you see?
Frustrated youths left in despair
Bound in chains by authorities, imprisoned & lacking equality
They stand no chance to be much more ; it’s leading to their mortality
Where’s the justice that we seek?
Where children feel that they are lost
deprived of freedom, hope and skills
That’s resonating like a bitter pill
It’s time for us to bridge the gap
And stop our people from being trapped
provide a better legacy that will last
By liberating minds and hearts
